This is a recipe I got from smitten kitchen. If you are going to do homemade oreos, I'd suggest using theirs. I was going to do their recipe but then I found out that we were out of cocoa powder. (It's always something.) So i looked up a way to substitute nutella. Turns out you can put in the same amount of cocoa powder and take out the same amount of oil, butter, or shortening you are using. Or maybe bacon fat, if applicable.
However...
I mixed everything but the nutella together only to find out that I had forgotten to take out the that amount of shortening or butter. So when I did add the nutella, the cookies came out way too oily. The nutella was sweeter than the cocoa powder would have been as well. So they are waaay too sweet. Next time if I do substitute nutella for cocoa powder, I'll have to actually remember to take out the oil or whatever and I'll have to take out some of the sugar. The oreo cookie part should be fairly bittersweet in my opinion.
Since it was so sweet, I had no choice but to dunk them in milk, which I don't normally do, or think should ever be done to a perfectly good store bought cookie. Die, Sugar! Die!
Also I am not satisfied with the amount of chocolateyness that is in the cookies. Probably the nutella's fault there too.
But! The frosting recipe (which I did not mess with) is perfect! I love it! It's that kind of pastey goup texture that is absolutely perfect for the oreo frosting.
So anyway, here is their recipe. The pictures you will see are of a cookie with a very chocolatey color. Mine did not end up that way. They are a sort of a pale chocolate. Not satisfactory! Nutella, why?!
Oh, also I only did mine for only 5 mins. I don't know if mine were smaller or what.
Did I mention I burnt two sheets full cuz I set my timer wrong? No, I didn't set it to 50 mins. Apparently you have to move it past twenty or something and then bring it back to 5 or it doesn't ding.
